Our region has a rich coastal marine ecosystem, home to many species of animals and plants that rely on it to survive. Many creeks and rivers flow from the mainland out into the Great Sandy Straits, a narrow section of sea between the mainland and Fraser Island. This part of our home is spectacular from the air, its many channels and sandbanks, mangroves and islands, twisting and turning here and there to produce contrasting patterns of rich colour. It is a landscape that I find deeply inspiring as an artist, one where I have spent much time during my life, so it is only natural that I would one day paint it.
