In July 2018, I was invited to paint live at the Hervey Bay Ocean Festival's Blessing of the Fleet celebration. Many thanks to Harbour Gift Gallery who kindly asked me to paint in their marquee on the day. The Gift Gallery is a wonderful supporter of local artists and crafters so it was a pleasure to be there and paint on their behalf. Do make sure that you drop into the shop at the Hervey Bay Marina (in the Terminal Building) next time you are in the Bay and check out their huge array of products by local artists and crafters.
The evening atmosphere of the "Blessing of the Fleet" celebration was electric...live music, local indigenous Butchulla members perfoming, local whale watching vessels on show and paraded on the harbour, religious leaders delivering prayers and songs to bless the whale watching vessels so that they may enjoy a safe and prosperous whale watching season ahead. There were rides for kids, food, fireworks, and a beautiful sea breeze. The air was literally filled with the sounds of people having a good time and those familiar sounds of the sea that I love so much.
My creativity fed off the atmosphere around me and was able to create 2 large paintings at the event! I had never painted so fast! The work literally flowed out of me and onto the canvas. It was the most incredible feeling!
The 2 paintings I created (pictured above) were inspired by the late afternoon colours and motion of the sea, by my feelings of freedom and pure joy in being there, painting beside the harbour, and by the atmosphere of fun around me. They are each available to purchase now in my shop here and here.
I am really excited about painting live again somewhere in the future!
